Over 40, Lose Weight Permanently And Be More Attractive Than Ever

Have you ever seen a women just beaming in her femininity? You can use the outcomes of scientific research to lose weight permanently for women over 40 also. And: While becoming more attractive, you'll gain a lot of energy and vitality as well.

What is occurring when your body is becoming older? Simplified, your metabolic process slows. Compared to a 20 year old woman, a 40 year old woman burns 10 to 15% calories less- but the consuming habits usually do not change:

A 40 year old women needs 300 calories per day less, if at age 30 she needed 2000 calories. That's approximately contained in a piece of cake, 3 bananas or two cans of soda. Given these numbers, you'll put on approximately 1 pound every 2 weeks or 26 per year if you do not shrink your calorie consumption.

In addition, the body transforms more muscles into fat- making losing weight over 40 permanently even harder. A physical exercise program aiming at the whole body is very important- and it will brighten your mood too.

The female body is programmed to store fat much more efficiently than the male body. The reason is easy to understand: When you get pregnant, your body has to provide for two. Unfortunately, the effective fat storage does not alter after menopause.

For many women over 40 the level of physical activity shifts too. Young mothers get a lot of exercise just by being with their children. This changes when the children become older and are more on their own. The day-to-day lives of many women over 40 are loaded with things to do, so they often do not have a chance to participate in a regular exercise program at a gym. Quick meal preparation is crucial for many women over 40, so they buy packaged food or eat out. These foods are known for containing too much fat.

Stress levels at work are frequently increasing as well and stress is a major component of failing to lose weight permanently.

Women over 40 have a severe time to lose weight permanently. You need to work with your body, not against it if you really want to lose weight permanently over 40.

Women Over 40: Blood Sugar Makes You Fat And What To Do About It

Women over 40 experience severe hormone changes. If you want to lose weight permanently as a woman over 40 you should give some attention to insulin. Insulin has a huge impact on if you are capable to lose weight permanently- and might make you fat instead. And that's the reason for this serious situation:

Insulin is released by the pancreas- an organ playing a major part in digestion and governing blood sugar. There are numerous hormones increasing your blood sugar, including glucagon, adrenalin and growth hormones. Many health risks, such as diabetes are connected with high blood sugar. So we have numerous hormones raising your blood sugar level, and raising health risks.

Just one hormone helps you to have lower blood sugar levels- insulin. So insulin is extremely crucial to balance your blood sugar level because it scales down your blood sugar.

After eating, sugar is entering the blood stream- for example as a result of digesting starchy foods. The cells of your body require this sugar to produce energy from it and to function. Insuline facilitates this process: Sugar goes from the blood into the cells where it can be burned.

And: Insulin does much more. It helps to get fatty acids from the blood into the fat cells where they are stored. In addition, it prevents burning fat. Insulin assists the body to store fat as energy needed for starving periods. Today, we do not face this threat any longer- but the fat storing mechanisms are still in place.

Too much insulin contributes to belly fat, being overweight and diabetes, disorder in fat metabolism, heart attacks and strokes.

In women over 40 the hormone system can be disturbed much easier compared to women in their twenties. If you are a woman over 40, you need to look at your insulin level. Two essential mistakes in eating lead to too much insulin:

  1. High glycemic index (GI). The insulin level rises higher and quicker if digested sugar can go into the blood rapidly. To measure how easy sugar from foods enters the blood commonly the glycemic index (GI) is used. Cakes, most sweets, white bread and rice or sweet fruits are frequently foods with a high GI. In general, the more refined a food is, the higher it's GI is. Avoid foods containing syrup, fructose, saccharose etc.

  2. When you eat artificial sweeteners your mind gets the message "sugar has got into the blood". The insulin level advances, and, as you know by now, you will burn less fat because of that. That's one of the reasons diet sodas do not contribute to losing weight permanently in a healthy way.

In addition, if you're eating lots of fat a increased insulin level will cause the fat to be stashed away in fat cells- what you need to avoid to lose weight permanently over 40.

Why Crunches Do Not Help You To Lose Belly Fat- And What To Do Instead

Do you want to lose belly fat over age 40? You'll frequently receive the advice to do crunches and other physical exercises targeting the abdominal muscles.

At first sight, that's logical. You're working out a body part, so the fat on this body part is getting less. Unfortunately our metabolism doesn't work that way:

There is no spot fat reduction. Where you will increase weight and where you lose it depends on your constitution, it s in the genes. Over 40 this genetic program is getting stronger and stronger.

Frequently I hear people saying things like "I want to lose belly fat" but it is not possible to lose fat on a particular body part. All we can do is to get an overall slim body (what is an ever better result anyway than just lose belly fat).

Crunches are wonderful to tone up the core muscles around your belly. If you want to shape your physique, exercises like the reverse bicycle really serve to tone your body. You might consider doing physical exercises for the back in addition, so front and back of your midsection are becoming strong. This will help your posture too and keep back pain away. The latter is very frequent for people over 40; we sit more as we should.

Crunches are- comparably- a waste of time when it gets to losing weight. Compared to the leg muscles, your ab muscles are comparatively small. So you burn more calories when you work out the leg muscles compared to exercising the abdomen muscles. Your leg muscles are much bigger and will burn more calories in the same time.

If you consider doing crunches, do it for the right reason: To strengthen your midsection. If you want to lose weight permanently, better exercise the bigger muscles on your body.

Workout After Menopause And Step-up Your Quality Of Life

When kids are playing they have a lot of fun. And the more they are moving their bodies the more fun they get. As we become older the fun seems to be associated less and less with exercise. Many of my clients over 40 have trouble getting themselves into the gym or doing any form of exercise, making it hard to lose weight permanently over 40.

But this doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, most people doing regular exercise experience being in a better mood. People tend to feel more vitality, feel more effective and productive and are emotionally more balanced.

Recent research released in the Archives of Internal Medicine looked into the results of exercise on the quality of life of menopausal women. All women were overweight or obese and had a sedentary lifestyle. The women were put on 3 different exercise programs with changing intensity level. As always in these studies, a control group had no exercise at all.

The results are interesting: Even if the women did not lose any weight (that means, they compensated the exercise by eating more), their quality of life increased. More exercise lead to better well-being, higher intensity of the exercise program leads to higher quality of life.

The exercise program offering the lowest intensity made the women feel better as well. Naturally, to lose weight permanently over 40 you have to integrate physical activities in your lifestyle. But you shouldn’t do it for some logical, left-brain reason only. You will feel better and love your life even more- particularly if you are over 40.

Are You Over 40? Do You Have A Hard Time To Lose Weight Permanently?

"There is too much to do. My days are very hectic- I'm constantly on the go." Is that you? And: If you'd like to lose weight permanently over 40, has this life-style something to do with permanent weight loss?

Stress can be a good thing. We feel energetic and powerful when stress hormones flood our bodies. Short time stress is good- but being stressed out all the time can make you sick: Heart attacks, diabetes, high blood pressure are related with stress.

Even worse: Stress makes you heavy and keeps you from losing weight permanently. Constant stress promotes fat deposits on your abdomen and your hips- stress fat. Stress fat is the body's energy pool to respond physically in stressful situations. This was very useful for our ancestors, facing natural challenges.

Unfortunately, nowadays our responses to stressful situations do not need to be physical any more- we do not have to run away from or fight wild animals. Today, our responses need to be mental. So the stress fat sits on our bodies and doesn't get burned. Especially for women stress fat increases the danger for heart diseases, high blood pressure, higher cholesterol, strokes, diabetes and cancer.

In stressful situations the adrenal gland releases adrenalin. Your metabolism slows down to make more energy accessible and the blood sugar level rises. Under permanent stress you burn less calories, preventing you from losing weight permanently. The changing blood sugar levels will lead to feeling hungry- so you'll eat more while burning fewer calories.

When you are under stress, the hormone cortisol is released. It affects your muscles, bones and the immune system. It's much riskier to get an contagious disease. The bone density is getting less, making osteoporosis more probable. And the muscle mass is reduced, so you'll burn less fat.

Cortisol has another risky effect lowering your ability to lose weight permanently. When your stress level scales down, the body's energy storage system needs to be filled up. Cortisol will give you a voracious appetite then. That's why you like high-calorie food in stress-reduced, relaxing phases- sweets, chocolate, cookies, ice-cream etc.

The longer fat cells are exposed to high cortisol levels, the sensitive they get. This process leads to a growing number of fat cells- not a positive outlook if you need to lose weight permanently.

Never-ending stress means continuous hunger at a decreased metabolism. When we get older we commonly accumulate more responsibilities- and consequently more stress. You need to decrease your stress level if you want to lose weight permanently over 40.

If the stress level is high losing weight permanently is peculiarly hard for women over 40. Women over 40 often have periods of eating not enough, followed by periods of time of eating too much if they are continously stressed. The constantly shifting weight makes it challenging to lose weight permanently for women over 40.
